The sound I wanna make has no letters in English is Gina Lo’s first EP, it portrays a kingdom of wonders she wants to bridge with modernity. The EP presents itself with a dreamy, echoing and obscure atmosphere throughout the three tracks.
TSIWMHNLIE is a blend of elements from nature ambience and field recordings, illustrating a surreal soundscape. Instead of focusing on a style with boundaries, the primary attention of the EP is how the audio sources are altered, edited and rearranged into new forms, scattering across each track in the EP. The EP introduces itself with a meditative ambient vibe, slowly building up to what it feels like a ritual happening in the jungle, taking the listeners on an emotional journey derived from her experiences in the wilderness away from the human race.
The concept of the EP was inspired by a theme that often comes up in director Satoshi Kon’s work - Memory and Dream. He expresses the subject in an interview : “The memories are flexible, they are not fixed things once and for all. They may evolve over time or under other circumstances. The facts remain facts, but subject to human subjectivity, they can be transformed.” Fixated on ideas of decaying memory already, this encouraged her to produce the EP mimicking the fragmented and inconclusive ways our memories work.
